Life on the Front Porch

The days are getting longer, the frogs start croaking and the bugs sing louder, a sure sign that summer is on its way. My husband and I decided to renovate my great-grandparents 1906 farm house, in the spring of 2007. The farm house was completely gutted and redone with a lot of hard work, tears, blood and sweat. Everything in life requires those things.  It had to be cleaned out, old lath and plaster removed and tore out.  A wall had to be taken out.  Old flooring needed ripped out.  Wallpaper had to be removed.  A process, old things removed, then restored and it became a home again.  A red metal roof was added, new white siding, and shiny windows.  Drywall took the place of plaster.  Ceiling was textured and restored to the original 9 foot glory.  The old, original wood flooring, was sanded and refinished, sealed. Fresh paint added cheer to the old farm house, a bright green for the kitchen, creamy white for the living room, a sky blue for the bedroom and a yellow for the loft, a possible nursery someday.  We moved in the following spring, May of 2008.

Life is about having a dream, a goal and a purpose to attain.  With each new chapter in the book we call life, is the inevitable change.  How do we handle change?  It should be meet with a smile and an anticipation of what tomorrow holds.  Our dreams should be held close, because when we stop dreaming we forget to plan for the future.

Front porch swings are where I have had some of my dreams and held them in my arms  There's nothing better than sitting on the porch, swinging, watching your neighbors drive by and waving.  Watching your flowers grow in the pot you planted.  Thinking and planning, all while swinging and enjoying the day. Rocking a sweet baby in your arms, waiting for Daddy to come home from work.  Summer nights are made to sit on the front porch swing and listen to the bugs singing and discussing the days events with the one you love.  Getting back to the basics of life, slowing down to sit in the swing, plan for tomorrow and make the future brighter, all the while, cherishing the day you were just blessed to live.
