Save Money by Enjoying What's Close to Home

What are your favorite things to do during the summer months?  I have enjoyed taking my kids everywhere from the swimming pool to the zoo.  Its nice to be able to do things that are free or don't cost a lot of money.  Take advantage of places that are close, especially with the price of gas!

This summer we went to places within our county that doesn't cost additional to enjoy, like the park and library. The kids love going to the park and playing on the play sets, swinging and sliding.  We hiked on the trails and the boys waded in the creek.  We also went to the library. They were able to enjoy books and crafts.  There is a local community center with a gym, so I go there to walk and all that is required is a donation.  The center also offers a zumba class, two nights a week, for a minimum cost.  Support your community and try to keep the local business growing!  You also help your self too:-)

Another way to save money during the summer is by having a garden.  We were so busy this summer that we were not able to have one, but we are blessed with great family and neighbors who shared with us. You can also visit your local farmer's market. We had fresh zucchini, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, corn and green beans!  Save money by canning or freezing and buy less this winter.  Another great benefit, is that you are eating organically and know exactly what is in your food!
